I LOVE MY DOX BECAUSE..
I love my Dorkie because she's a big dog in a little body and not afraid to tell everyone about it. She keeps us safe from leaves and people walking dogs, but has great respect for anyone delivering a box in case it IS the box she's waiting for!
…because she is very loyal and incredibly loving. She also has a nose for sniffing out anything for miles! She is cunning, silly, and very lovable!
…because they are excellent comic relief. Tenacious and sassy, these two always have something to say and are ready to tackle a challenge. Personality for days in a fun sized package.
…because they are spunky, cuddly and stubborn… not to mention their tiny legs…
What Dachshund Parents Are Saying...
"My senior Dachshund was really having trouble with his hips and has been super slow to get out of bed and "warm up" in the mornings. I've been using Bark Food's Hip Hip Hooray supplements for 6 weeks now and I can tell that Lady is already feeling more like himself."
–Natalie & Lady

"Penny is a crazy, energetic wigglebutt, and I've worried about finding the best food, especially for her joints. I've tried several brands, but she was never wild about any of them. I recently switched her to Bark Food (happy to say it's a hit!) and she seems much more active, plus her coat is SO shiny."
–Steven & Penny

frequently asked questions
How much food should I feed my Dachshund?
Every dog has a different sweet spot. This has to do with things like age, genetics, lifestyle, digestibility, quality of their food, and any health issues. There are formulas that we and your vet use to estimate where to start, taking these things into consideration. These recommendations can be found on your BARK food bag. After that, the ultimate answer comes from this question: Is your dog maintaining a healthy, lean body weight? If the answer is YES, you are feeding the perfect amount! If the answer is NO (they are getting a little too skinny or too chubby), then we need to make some gradual adjustments.
How many times should a Dachshund eat?
For most adults, splitting their daily recommended kibble amount into two meals is perfect.
How can I transition my Dachshund to BARK Food?
To transition your Dachshund over to BARK Food, we generally recommend transitioning food over the course of one week, gradually phasing out the old food and introducing the new. For the first two days offer a meal that is 25% new food and 75% old food. After that, move to 50% and 50% for two days, then 75% new food and 25% old food for two more days. After that your dog should be ready to eat only their new food! During this transition you will monitor for any vomiting, diarrhea, or appetite change that would indicate your dog is having trouble with the new food. For more on transitioning dog foods see our guide here.
My Dachshund has bad teeth, can they eat this food?
The short answer is: maybe. Dental disease can be a big problem for your dog, especially if it’s advanced. Sometimes, bad teeth need soft food rather than hard food, because hard food can be painful or impossible to eat. Small dogs like Dachshunds are particularly prone to dental problems and disease because their mouths are too small for all their teeth, and this causes all kinds of complications over time.
Ideally, dental disease is addressed by your vet (get those dead/dying/broken teeth out of there! They aren't doing a darn thing except causing the world's longest headache and body-wide inflammation), but if it hasn't been yet or can't be, consider soft food for that doggo. And definitely talk to your vet.
